I see Yorkshire have, as expected, declared on their overnight score to force a result.
I just hope Gloucestershire set them a challenge at Scarborough, a fast-scoring ground where 5.5 an over is gettable with a batting side like our northern neighbours have.
If it is less than 340 in 65 overs, my money would be on Yorkshire. Let's face it, they have to go for it, whatever they are left...
Surely this is Yorkshire's last chance to catch us now? They only have 3 bonus points in this match so unless they win the max they will get from this match is 6, taking them to 137. Meanwhile we already have 5 bonus points, so even if we lose today we'll end up on 166, a lead of 29.
ReplyDeleteEven if Yorkshire then won their last two games and took, say, 6 bonus points in each, that would take them to 181, meaning we only need another 16 points to stay ahead of them. A draw today, and one draw and 10 bonus points across our last two games should be relatively straightforward, even with our slightly brittle top order.
I can't see Kent winning today so their position is even worse. Which means even if Hampshire overtake us then we would go up.
Do correct my maths if it's wrong!

Declaration bowling in the extreme, it borders on bringing the game into disrepute! However, if I was a Yorkshireman I would say there's 'nowt' wrong with it.
