Derbyshire v Worcestershire

Dear me...

At halfway we looked like we'd done a good day's work, but turning wicket notwithstanding, that was a poor batting performance.

Martin Guptill, Garry Park, Ross Whiteley and Chesney Hughes gave it away, while Ches sold the skipper down the river with appalling calling. Durston got a good one and Madsen was out-thought for once.

We just seemed to lack a bit of common sense, the sort that Madsen suggested he'd provide by playing with soft hands and pushing twos, but Derbyshire dropped from recent lofty standards tonight.

There was excellent bowling from Tom Knight, but we should have been celebrating a win tonight, no doubt about it.

Full credit to Worcestershire, but the nation saw our fallibilities tonight.

Sadly, so did we.

  1. Fallibility. You can say that again ,peakfan. It wasn,t just bad it was shambolic. There can be no excuses whatsoever for that batting display. I could have knocked that score off with you at the other end. Getting out is one thing, but we re-invent the word. They haven,t got the sense they were cradled with. Very disappointing and good enough by half. So much for all this coaching. Well done to Knight,he alone escapes any criticism.

  2. These things can happen like yesterday Somerset were all out for 90, today northants for 96 and essex for 82, the problem is these performances are all to regular with us. In truth it was a very poor game, in fact the writing was on the wall when worcs had 10 runs on the board off the first ball with with the two 5 wides! No wonder the two sides have the 3rd worst and 2nd worst t20 records of all time in England. Oh well, we must not dwell on this and look ahead to friday.

  3. There was a horrible story circulating the ground tonight that Andy Brown had recently visted the ground only to be escorted off the ground by a member of the club's committee. Has anyone got any more information on this?

  4. piss poor - sort it out kris and peak fan Sutton didnt help himself by looking a very poor batsman - he hasnt scored any decent runs all season - plus cost 8 runs by insisting on standing up to a quick bowler - captain or not he should be dropped!

  5. I can't agree with you that " Derbyshire dropped from recent lofty standards tonight." -The standard since John Morris was removed has been abysmal. I was very dissapointed with the appointment of Karl Krikken as coach, because although he has all the coaching certificates and technical skills to be a team coach you need to be able to motivate players, and instill a positive confident attitude and give them a tactical lead about how to approach a situation and provide an assesment of what par scores on pitches are and adjust accordingly to to batting and bowling. I dont think Karl showed any of these skills in his playing days despite being an excellent technical keeper. Also he was a prime mover in forcing Jones & Stillman out of the club, despite the 2nd most succesful season in the clubs history. In the end in a low scoring game we weren't far short, so the game was effectively lost after 2 balls. It was iditic to stand up to Jones without first seeing how much the ball would swing and bounce. If Sutton had been standing back neither of those would have gone for 4 byes on top of the wide.

  6. dissapointing. the batsmen gave it away by trying to finish the game early with having such a small total to chase. had they not tried to hit it out the park every ball and played more like the tail (ones, twos, punish the bad ball) i feel it would have gone our way. royals bowled well but not well enough, our planning for the chase was poor as was the skipper. on the plus side Knight was supurb for one so inexperianced and apart from a couple of deliveries(bowlers fault or keepers???) the unit bowled well. we must learn from this surely the batsmen who played so well just lately can play more than one way. if all departments click we could be awesome. up the FALCONS. 7. The first over was awful. You can blame Sutton to a point but he didn,t bowl it two feet down the leg side. You can have all the coaching in the world, but one thing you can,t coach is common sense. That is our biggest failing and has been for far too long. If the batsmen get it right, you can guarantee the bowlers don,t and vice versa.

That should have been as easy a victory as you wish for last night and once again we cock it up. You would rightly have a go at a club number eleven if he got out to some of the shots we saw last night. Losing is one thing. It how you lose.

  8. Putting Sutton's keeping aside, if he is going to bat at No. 6 in the Twenty/20's we have got problems. He couldn't get a game at Lancashire because he is not a Twenty/20 player.
