Netherlands v Derbyshire

As Chris puts it on Falcons Forum tonight, we'd have taken four wins and two defeats in the first six games before we started and that's what we will have if tomorrow's result goes our way.

There's no doubt that we need to play a lot better than we did yesterday, although to qualify that, worthy as our opponents are they're not international players in the true sense. We cannot and must not take it easy though, as they showed when they surprised us at the County Ground.

I don't see many changes from Sunday's team, although Mark Footitt's extra pace could be a useful weapon.

Likely line up is:

Hughes, Khawaja, Durston, Smith, Madsen, Park, Sutton, Clare, Rafiq, Groenewald, Jones/Footitt

My forecast is a Derbyshire win, but we'll need to be at our best to do it.

  1. Andyindevon makes a very worrying post. My worry is who is the club's batting coach? With John Morris and Andy Brown we obviously had this covered especially with John being one of the club's greatest ever batsmen. I don't see a batting coach in the current set up and obvoiusly batting is very important in cricket. It makes me wonder whether the hasty decision to press the button on John's ejector seat was thought out properly?

  2. I disagree. You don't become a Level 4 coach like Krikken without being able to coach batting.
To say that Sutton's field placings were poor is again easy when 2 batsmen are going well. If you've ever done the job you'd know it ain't easy!
Likewise his comment of their "stability and a committed core of solid pros instead of our revolving door approach" ignores the fact that they have the money to sign international players, who you're hardly likely to be looking to swap around...
Sutts is a good skipper in my opinion.

  4. Sigh...they're coming through at different rates. They don't become world-beaters at 19/20 but there's enough coming on as far as I'm concerned. We've not got a James Taylor yet, but Redfern, Sheikh, Whiteley etc are all going to be good lads in due course.
    Just gotta be patient bud...
